Hello District 22!

Why I’m running.

I LOVE THIS DISTRICT and was able to choose it as my home 21 years ago. I’ve built a good life here and think that everyone should have that same opportunity.

I’VE SEEN MY NEIGHBORS PRICED OUT, mom and pops struggle with unreasonable commercial rents, and speculative real estate ventures compromise the affordable housing that brought me here. Tenants and small homeowners continue to be at risk, while developers and corporate landlords feel emboldened to act as if our community is for sale.

I’VE SEEN COVID-19 overwhelm our fragile health care system, crush our small businesses, and further expose deep systemic inequality.

I AM CONCERNED about the disproportionate environmental burdens and power plants which affect our air quality and health, particularly for our children, immunocompromised, and lower-income and NYCHA residents, and contribute to climate change.

I’M ANGRY that the City’s education, social and human services, housing and youth program budgets were slashed while the bloated NYPD budget was barely nicked, at a time when the NYPD should have been meaningfully defunded.

I WORRY for seniors, immigrant neighbors, youth and communities of color in the District and believe we must do more to meet their needs and ensure they can thrive and continue to live here.

But I’m hopeful.

I’M HOPEFUL that a grassroots, community-driven approach can help us find the solutions we need to build a livable, sustainable, and equitable District 22 and New York City.

I’m tenacious and have a track record.

I bring people together to get things done in solidarity and with shared leadership.

I show up, get my hands dirty, work collaboratively towards change, and follow through.

I’M INCLUSIVE and believe that we each bring important perspectives to the table. The diversity in our community is an asset and all voices must be heard and engaged. Old residents and new, youth and seniors, US-born and immigrants, renters and homeowners. Regardless of race, religion, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and all factors that form our collective identity, everyone should be listened to.  However, we must center the voices of those who have been affected by discrimination and racism to move our city forward.

The systems which have led to inequity in NYC schools and neighborhoods must be dismantled, and we must all work together to create a sustainable, liveable community for all. Our well-being, health and dignity are interconnected and bound up with one another.

I BELIEVE IN ETHICS AND TRANSPARENCY, and I will hold myself accountable for the things I say and do.  I am not accepting donations from real estate developers, large landlords or lobbyists, nor will I take money from the police unions such as PBA or SBA or similar organizations. I’m relying on small donors, neighbors and people who know what I stand for to fund my campaign.

DEMOCRAT, PROGRESSIVE, MOM, COACH, COMMUNITY BUILDER, ADVOCATE. I am all those things and more. But my values never waver. People first. Dignity for all.

My name is Evie and I’m for everyone.

What Evie for everyone means for donations.

I’m relying on small donors, neighbors and people who know what I stand for to fund my campaign. I am not accepting donations from real estate developers or lobbyists, nor will I take money from the PBA, SBA or similar organizations.

I pledge that I will use my office to champion a Green New Deal in any and all ways, including but not limited to: developing and supporting Green New Deal legislation and/or resolutions; building support amongst my colleagues for a Green New Deal; and publicly advocating for the necessity of a Green New Deal.

In order to fully uphold this duty, I pledge to not take contributions over $200 from oil, gas, and coal industry executives, lobbyists, or PACs and instead prioritize the health of our families, climate, and democracy over fossil fuel industry profits.
